Timeline: 2021 onwards.
Brampton Transit added eight zero-emission buses into service in May 2021. The new zero-emission buses were a part of the global deployment to date of standardized and fully interoperable Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) and high-powered overhead on-route charging systems, as part of the Pan-Canadian BEB Demonstration and Integration Trial.
This breakthrough electric bus technology will support zero tailpipe emissions and reduce pollution. The buses will also achieve near-zero emissions in their lifecycle, a significant decrease in emissions from diesel equivalents. Each bus can charge completely in less than 10 minutes.
Brampton was able to procure, install and will operate and maintain the eight electric buses and four overhead bus-charging stations through funding commitments by the government of Canada.
