The Clean Air Council (CAC) is a project of the Clean Air Partnership (CAP). The CAC is a network of 30 municipalities and health units who have been working collaboratively for 20 years on the development and implementation of clean air, climate change, sustainability, and resilience actions. Each year we provide more than 20 in-person workshops where municipalities share best practices, case studies, and pilot projects; and more than 24 webinars where external experts share policy and technical solutions. We also develop more than 25 reports and guidelines to support municipal staff annually.
CAC members commit to working on actions that are mutually agreed upon in an Intergovernmental Declaration on Clean Air and Climate Change. Declarations are aligned with four-year municipal council terms. For each Declaration action area, targets are set, and results are presented annually to show progress towards achieving our collective goals. CAC workshops and meetings are designed to support the development and implementation of these actions. The actions in the current Declaration focus on low carbon buildings, low carbon transportation, green infrastructure, climate change adaptation and resilience, green economy, community engagement, corporate leadership.
Workshops and meetings are held primarily in Metro Hall, Toronto, and additionally across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Rotating meetings fosters a more diverse audience and builds interdepartmental communication and collaboration. Moreover, the CAC meetings provide an opportunity for the hosting jurisdiction to show municipal leadership and to strengthen senior management and council support.
For those who can not join in person, we also broadcast and record meetings by webinar. CAC events are structured to allow for efficient and effective municipal engagement. Meetings are designed to optimize delivery research and knowledge transfer, provide networking opportunities, and advancing climate action. We utilize expert presentations where necessary, from academia, government, non-profit and private sectors.
CAC provides Canada’s largest platform for solving climate action at the municipal level. We do this because we know that by working together, CAC members achieve far more with fewer resources.
