Capacity Development for Municipal Fleet Electrification

This project is funded by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund (FCM GMF). It supports and promotes municipal light-duty fleet electrification by developing and disseminating case studies, running informative webinars and panels and gathering information on existing capacity needs.

During Phase 1 of the project, a webinar titled How to Electrify your Municipal Fleet was conducted by CAP and FCM for the municipal fleet managers. Through this webinar, a panel of municipal EV experts offered advice and best practices on the hows and whys of electrification and shared valuable lessons from municipalities that have already begun their electrification journey. View the webinar recording here.

In Phase 2, Clean Air Partnership developed an EV Case Study series. The case studies explored innovative approaches used by municipalities to overcome EV adoption barriers. Three municipalities were featured in this case study series.

  • West Vancouver, BC – Conducted a full electrical system update of two key municipal facilities to install chargers for their existing EVs and future EVs.
  •  Calgary, AB – Acquired more than 30 EVs in 3 years – has one of the fastest-growing EV fleets in western Canada.
  •  Kingston, ON – Developed a leasing policy and is leasing EV fleet assets till supply chain issues ease and advanced EV technology becomes available in the market.

In Phase 3, a panel discussion was held on fleet electrification with some industry experts and municipal staff from communities who have already embraced fleet electrification. The panelists shared valuable lessons on overcoming common barriers to adopting EV fleets. View the recording of the panel discussion here.
