The City of Kingston was awarded a Sustainable Communities Award for Transportation from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in 2018 for having the highest proportion of commuters using active transportation and public transit of all mid-sized Canadian metropolitan areas.
From 2011-2017, the city has increased its transit ridership by 73 percent, with over six million riders in 2017. In recent years, its transit ridership has grown by over 10 percent per year (including an 18 percent increase in 2017).
