Clarington’s EV Infrastructure Advancement

March 8, 2023 by

As part of its five-year Electric Vehicle Action Plan (EVAP), the Municipality of Clarington is expecting to install a total of 39 new public EV chargers and 24 new fleet chargers with dedicated parking spots by the end of 2026.

2021 update:

In 2021, the first year of this plan, Clarington opened seven new EV charging stations in Bowmanville: five in the parking lot at 33 Division Street, and two at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex. These charging stations were funded in part through a partnership with the Region of Durham and a grant received from Natural Resources Canada Zero Emissions Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). The funding received in January 2020 covered 50 per cent of the costs associated with the purchase and installation of EV charging stations in Clarington and Durham Region.

2022 update:

In 2022, Clarington installed eight additional EV charging stations at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex. These charging stations were funded with $65,000 from the Municipal Capital Works Reserve Fund and the Federal Zero Emissions Infrastructure Program grant.
