Toronto Enhanced Transit Programs

January 12, 2022 by

City of Toronto Enhanced Transit Programs

Timeline: 2017 onwards.

The King Street Transit Priority Corridor between Bathurst Street and Jarvis Street aims at putting people and transit first through improved transit reliability, speed and capacity. The corridor design gives priority to streetcars by prohibiting through movements for vehicles at most intersections, expands space for streetcar stops, and allows for a balanced mix of curb lane uses including public space areas, cafés, loading zones, and taxi stands.

The RapidTO program, part of the TTC’s 5-Year Service Plan & 10-Year Outlook, aims to move people more efficiently on transit by improving reliability, speed and capacity on some of the busiest bus routes in the city. More reliable bus routes with increased capacity will improve access to employment, healthcare and community services, as well as improve transit equity. Currently, Eglinton Avenue East/Kingston Road/Morningside Avenue route got completed in November 2020 under this project.
