Toronto Active Transportation Programs

January 12, 2022 by

City of Toronto Active Transportation Programs

Timeline 2016 onwards.

The City of Toronto has over 800 km bikeways Network which includes a combination of off-road paths, bike lanes and shared roadway routes. From 2016 to 2018, approximately 60 km of new cycling infrastructure was installed, over 100 km of cycling routes were upgraded and enhanced, and bicycle signals were installed.

The ActiveTO program was developed by Toronto Public Health and Transportation Services to provide more space for people to be physically active and improve physical distancing as part of the City’s restart and recovery in the wake of COVID-19.
ActiveTO initiatives include closing major roads for active transportation, expanding the cycling network and quiet streets.
