Somg Summit 2005
On June 8, 2005 federal, provincial and municipal government leaders gathered at the sixth annual Smog Summit to announce new initiatives that commit to reducing smog, air pollution and greenhouse gases with the signing of the Toronto and Region 2005 Inter-governmental Declaration on Clean Air. Federal ministers included Minister Stéphane Dion (Environment) and Minister John Godfrey (Infrastructure and Communities). Minister Leona Dombrowsky represented the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.

Regional Councillor Brenda Hogg, Town of Richmond Hill
Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, City of Toronto

Regional Councillor Janice Wright, Halton Region and Town of Oakville

Regional Councillor Annette Groves, Peel Region and Town of Caledon
Regional Councillor Jim Jones, Town of Markham

The municipal roundtable discussion was moderated by Paula Todd from TV Ontario. Municipal politicians discussed a variety of new initiatives and ideas ranging from a regional transit system to hybrid vehicles for fleets.

The event concluded with all representatives signing the Toronto and Region Inter-governmental Declaration on Clean Air.

New to this year’s event was a video presentation of the Clean Air Partnership’s first ever Fresh Air Fair and the presentation of a plaque to the Grade 5 essay contest “Tell us your Air Pollution Solution” winner, Shay Hicks.
