Smog Summit 2003
During June of 2003 four community forums were held across the GTA. The forums showcased successful energy reduction initiatives by local business, community groups, and municipal jurisdictions, encouraging others to adopt similar strategies to reduce smog and energy use.
On June 20, representatives from all levels of government within the GTA gathered to take action on smog with a focus on energy use. Representatives reported on progress made since the last Smog Summit, and committed to further smog reduction and joint initiatives by signing the 2003 Inter-governmental Declaration on Clean Air.
As part of Smog Summit activities, a GTA-wide Idle-Free Campaign was launched in June to raise awareness of the pollution generated by idling vehicles. The first issue of Smog News was also released to provide the most recent information on smog and energy use, and to highlight steps individuals can take.
In addition, Enbridge Gas Distribution provided a sustainable energy tour.
