Benchmarking Active Transportation in Canadian Cities: Report Highlights

Highlights from a TCAT report released in 2010 comparing the performance of active transportation in Toronto against other cities in Canada, the United States and Europe using key indicators as benchmarks. This paper will be presented at the Walk 21 Conference in Vancouver, BC on October 4, 2011 and published in their proceedings.
Climate Change Adaptation and Health Equity Workshop Report
July 13, 2011
On May 24, 2011, Clean Air Partnership (CAP) and Toronto Public Health (TPH) jointly organized and hosted a Climate Change Adaptation and Health Equity workshop in order to initiate a broader discussion and subsequent action toward climate change adaptation and health equity. The workshop results will be of use to municipalities, NGO’s and other sectors who work with vulnerable populations.

On November 16, 2009, the Toronto Board of Health considered a report from the Medical Officer of Health, entitled "Update on the Metrolinx Georgetown South Service Expansion and Union-Pearson Rail Link." A number of written submissions and deputations from members of the community were received.

The Board recommended that "the Chairs of the Board of Health and the Parks and Environment Committee be requested to consider holding a public forum to be held in the Council Chamber as soon as possible; and that they invite the Minister of the Environment or his designate, and the President and CEO of Metrolinx to attend this meeting and hear more speakers on this issue."

The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity to increase dialogue between Metrolinx, the Ministry of the Environment and the community on measures being taken to address health and environmental concerns associated with the proposed expansion of diesel train service, and to consider additional input from the public.
