STUDENTS EXPLORE ENERGY-WISE CHOICES AND LIFESTYLES
TORONTO - One hundred Grade 5 students from two schools in York Region will visit Kortright Centre for Conservation on April 11 as part of the PowerStream Energy Education Pilot Program.
The event is part of the PowerStream Energy Education Pilot Program, a collaboration between the Clean Air Partnership, Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), the York Region and York Catholic District School Boards, Ontario EcoSchools, and York Region Health Services.
During the 2006/07 school year, the PowerStream Energy Education Pilot Project has been helping promote energy-wise choices and lifestyles to students in the York Region and York Catholic District School Boards. It reaches 1,100 Grade 5 students in 41 classes through special resources for teachers, classroom lessons that connect students to their school’s energy saving activities with Ontario EcoSchools resources, activities to save energy at home with an Energy Toolkit, and the 20/20 The Way to Clean Air Student Planner.
TRCA’s Kortright Centre for Conservation is the home of Canada’s largest collection of educational renewable energy demonstrations. The students will learn about solar and wind power through interacting with real life examples of wind turbines and solar panels.
