Idle Free Resources Available to GTA Area Schools
Holding an idle free campaign is an excellent opportunity for students to make a difference. Clean Air Partnership’s Idle Free Campaign in a Box is a how-to guide that helps schools deliver idle free campaigns. It allows teachers and students to select those activities that fit the specific needs and purposes of their campaign.
Promoting an idle free school is also an excellent way to help students find an easy environmental action they can influence and thereby see that their actions do make a difference. Helping people change their idling behavior also helps build awareness of the connection between our everyday choices and actions and air pollution and climate change.
The Idle Free Campaign in a Box:
- Includes activities that fulfill a number of curriculum expectations such as the Grade 5 Energy Conservation strand;
- Allows the school to come together as a collective and work towards a common goal;
- Empowers students to change a behaviour that harms their environment and the air they breathe; and
- Introduces students to community based social marketing which emphasizes small changes at the local level.
