The Clean Air Partnership (CAP) and Ontario Centre for Climate Impacts and Adaptation Resources (OCCIAR) have been selected to coordinate an outreach project on climate change.
Funded by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, the Community Adaptation Initiative is a project to help communities address the challenges of climate change.
This initiative will work with private and public sector groups, conservation authorities and non-governmental organizations to become more resilient to climate change and its effects.
This project will develop and distribute resources and host events designed to help Ontario communities adapt to climate change.
These resources will include:
Workshops
To build capacity in Ontario’s northern and rural communities.
Citizen Forums
To engage the general public on climate change impacts and adaptation.
Videos
To share examples of simple actions Ontario communities are taking to adapt to climate change.
CAP is creating five short videos to show the actions Ontario communities are already taking to adapt to climate change. The videos will be available on CAP’s website late in 2011.

Case Studies
To explore in-depth examples of promising adaptation activities in
Ontario communities.
CAP is working with graduate planning students from Ryerson University to develop five case studies that explore examples of promising adaptation planning and activities in Ontario communities. The case studies will be available on CAP’s website in the summer of 2011.

Town of Ajax process for incorporating climate change adaptation into their Official Plan

City of Toronto’s Sustainable Street Tree planting initiatives

Web-based Resources
To disseminate important information, including factsheets, climate trend data, best practices, and climate science bulletins.
Webinars
To build adaptive capacity among members of professional associations.
Expert-led Technical Workshops
To prepare stakeholders for planning to reduce the urban impacts of climate change.
CAP is holding five technical workshops to help practitioners in at-risk sectors protect themselves from climate-related impacts. The workshops will be held between May 2011 and January 2012. Preliminary themes, locations and dates can be found in the table below.
