Community Adaptation Case Studies

Guide to Writing Community Climate Change Adaptation Case Studies, April 2011.

Case studies of community climate change adaptation describe the real-life experiences of community members and local governments and agencies that have begun to adapt to climate change. They provide observations and reflections on these experiences, and provide practitioners with practical information to help them make decisions about how to develop their own adaptation processes.

Clean Air Partnership has developed a guide for people who are writing or planning to write community climate change adaptation case studies.  The guide provides examples of different types of community adaptation case studies, including introductory (“gateway”) case studies, worked examples, process case studies, learning histories and comparative case studies.  The guide also outlines key considerations for scoping a case study, steps for writing a case study, and challenges and benefits associated with case study writing.

This guide was produced with the support of the BC Regional Adaptation Collaborative and Natural Resources Canada. It is also available on the ReTooling for Climate Change website where readers can also find local government climate change adaptation resources.
